SNIP Program

Mitchell Animal Rescue offers an income based spay and neuter program for residents in the Mitchell community and Davison County. We take applications based on your income and will subsidize expenses required to spay/neuter your pet if you meet income qualifications. Proof of income must accompany your application. Once your application has been approved, you will be given a voucher to take to the vet of your choice. If you have questions, please contact (605)995-2524 or email mitchellanimalrescue@gmail.com.

Trap Neuter Release (TNR) Program

Stray/feral cats or kittens are often reported to animal control and are trapped and transported to the animal pound by the Mitchell Police Department. Many of these adult felines are not suitable as housecats and are truly feral. The best chance we can give them is through our TNR program, where they are trapped, tested for feline diseases, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, tattooed for identification and then released onto an adopter’s property as an outdoor cat with access to to warm shelter food and water. Generally, these cats are used on farms and ranches to help control the pest population.

Kittens brought in through the TNR program are often born feral, but can usually be tamed into domestication through the efforts of our MAR volunteers. If you would like to adopt a kitten through TNR, there will be an adoption fee and the kittens will be adopted out as indoor pets only. They will be vaccinated and treated as needed, and any kitten 16 weeks and older will be spayed or neutered.

If you would like to be places on the adoption list for the TNR program, please submit the application below. Cats will be released to adopters as they are trapped and you will be notified shortly before a TNR cat is available for you.

Re-Homing Assistance

While the city pound nor the Mitchell Animal Rescue accepts owner surrenders, we don’t want to see a healthy animal euthanized because of an unfortunate owner situation. If you are in desperate need of a new home for your dog or cat, the Mitchell Animal Rescue is one resource that can help you re-home your pet. We do this through posts on our social media channels and our rescue network.

We ask you to also seek assistance through methods such as small ads in the local newspaper, Craigslist and Keloland.com at no charge.

If you need immediate re-homing assistance, you will need to contact the Sioux Falls Humane Society for help.
