WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS (UNPAID) TO FILL SEVERAL POSITIONS
Social Media Focal
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) person to help with social media postings.
This person is responsible for posting and maintaining animal posts on social media sites (Facebook).
The estimated time requirement is between 1-3 hours each day but may be slightly more or less, depending on the season and other circumstances.
Animal Fosters
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking people to provide temporary homes for dogs and/or cats rescued from the Mitchell City Pound. The animals will be spayed/neutered and will have all required vaccinations before inducted into the foster home.
The foster will be responsible for ensuring that the animals are safe and properly cared-for.
Mitchell Animal Rescue pays for medical needs, food and other supplies as required by the foster.
Animal Transition Coordinator
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) person for the Transition Coordinator position. This person deals with the activities necessary when an animal is pulled from the pound to go to foster care or to be transported to another rescue. Specific tasks include:
• Work with the Pound Coordinator, Foster Coordinator and Transfer Coordinator to determine:
- when animals need to be pulled from the pound,
- the length of time that temporary accommodations for the animal are needed and what temporary accommodations will be used for the animal.
• Coordinate with the MAR leadership to determine whether the animal is to be spayed, neutered, inoculated, tested or provided with other medical treatment before being released into MAR custody.
• Coordinate with the veterinary clinic to ensure the medical procedures, tests and inoculations are completed before the animal is released into MAR custody.
• Ensure all paperwork for the animal (vaccination record, rabies certificate, etc.) is provided and current before the animal is released into MAR custody.
• If needed, ensure all animals adopted by Mitchell Animal Rescue from the pound have temporary homes immediately after their release from the pound and before induction into a foster home or transfer to another rescue.
• Ensure all animals adopted by Mitchell Animal Rescue from the pound have transportation to temporary homes, foster home or other facility immediately after their release from the pound.
We will train people who are willing to make and meet a commitment to do this task. The estimated time requirement is between 1-2.0 hours each week but may be slightly more or less, depending on how many animals are in the pound.
Transfer Coordinator
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) person for the Transfer Coordinator position. This person transports or arranges transport for animals that need transportation from the pound to other vet clinics, to their foster homes or to other rescues.
The Transfer Coordinator will work with the Transition Coordinator and Foster Coordinator to determine what animals require transport, the destinations of the animals and the methods of transport. The Transition Coordinator may chose to transport animals personally or may use Facebook and other media (telephone calls, email, etc.) to find people/organizations to transport animals rescued by MAR.
We will train people who are willing to make and meet a commitment to do this task. The estimated time requirement is 1-2 hours each week but may be slightly more or less, depending on how many animals are in the pound.
Advertising Coordinator
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) person for the Advertising Coordinator position.
The Advertising Coordinator will design and distribute fliers, posters and other advertising materials for MAR events. The Advertising Coordinator will work with MAR officers and other board members to ensure that MAR events are properly publicized in social media, radio, television, newspaper and/or through other means.
Home Visit Focal
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) person to do home visits for candidate volunteers, adopters and fosters.
The Home Visit Focal will work with MAR officers and other coordinators to perform a home visit for a foster, volunteer or adoption applicant. The Home Visit Focal will work with the candidate volunteer/foster/adopter to arrange a time for the visit. The Focal will use a procedure to inspect the home and interview the candidate. Once the visit is complete, the Focal will convey the visit findings to the relevant coordinator/officer.
Most home visits will be in the Mitchell area but may be as far as one hour from Mitchell, South Dakota.
Adoption Coordinator
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) person for the Adoption Coordinator position. This person will review adoption applications, call references, arrange/coordinate/perform a home visit and approve or deny adoption applicants.
If the prospective adopter is found to be acceptable, the Adoption Coordinator will arrange/coordinate transportation for the animal to the prospective adopter. The Adoption Coordinator will also do one or more check ups during the 2-week trial run and finalize the adoption if the applicants decide to adopt.
We will train people who are willing to make and meet a commitment to do this task. The estimated time requirement is between 1-2 hours each week but may be slightly more or less, depending on how many animals are are available.

Phone Volunteer
Mitchell Animal Rescue is seeking dependable people to check the Mitchell Animal Rescue telephone voicemail. This is a rotating responsibility with other volunteers and will be done at intervals of about one week per month.

Pound Check Volunteer
Mitchell Animal Rescue is seeking dependable people to check the City Pound one day per week. Specific tasks include gathering the following information (except for animals that cannot be handled):
Once the information is gathered, the volunteer will send out an email to the pound report distribution with a summary of the information and upload photos to the Mitchell Animal Rescue Facebook page.
We will train people who are willing to make and meet a commitment to do this task on a designated day every week. The estimated time requirement is 1-2 hours each week but may be slightly more or less, depending on how many new additions are in the pound.
Leadership Positions
Mitchell Animal Rescue is looking for leaders. The volunteers we are seeking will be aggressive self-starters that will make a long-term commitment to continuing and building Mitchell Animal Rescue.
The successful candidates will have the knowledge, skills and drive to increase Mitchell Animal Rescue's presence within Mitchell and within South Dakota. These leaders will continue and build upon the existing relationships with the Mitchell Police department, the pound operator, and other organizations, rescues and businesses.
Successful candidates will be familiar with non-profit organizations, have good problem solving skills, good people skills and at least a basic grasp of animal rescue functions.

Volunteer Coordinator
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, aggressive, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) self-starter for the Volunteer Coordinator position.
The Volunteer Coordinator will work with the Event Coordinator and contact MAR volunteers to help when an event is planned. This would also require processing volunteer applications, contacting prospective volunteers and matching talents to the open volunteer positions.
The time required is dependent on the number of planned events and the number of applications that are submitted. We do two annual events, the Moses Bike Show and the Neil Epp Memorial Poker Run. We also attend small events, such as craft shows, with a table set up with information and a donation jar. The more volunteers we have that are willing to help at events, the more events we could possibly plan.
Event Coordinator
Mitchell Animal Rescue (MAR) is seeking a dependable, aggressive, local (preferably within 70 miles of Mitchell, SD) self-starter for the Event Coordinator position.
The Event Coordinator will present fundraising ideas to the Board during monthly Board Meetings, prepare an annual fundraising schedule, plan and organize fundraising events for Mitchell Animal Rescue and work with other coordinators to ensure that the event is properly advertised and staffed.
